Story Prologue: Chicago, December 22nd, 1960. The city is bustling with holiday shoppers and festive decorations, but for Mogre Magden, a 33-year-old Ogre and popular disk jockey, it's just another day in a long struggle to be accepted in a world that fears and ostracizes him. Mogre's human wife, Maggie L Magden, a 29-year-old high school teacher, shares his burden, as does their son Mogre Jr, a shy and sometimes passive-aggressive 15-year-old half-Ogre, half-human Brit who dreams of being a football player.
Despite Mogre's success as a DJ and his wife's respected position as a teacher, they are still outsiders in a city that prides itself on its diversity. Mogre's size and appearance make him a target of discrimination, and his son's mixed heritage only compounds the problem. Despite their struggles, the Magden family persists, holding onto their dreams of acceptance and belonging in a world that seems determined to keep them out.
